Vitamin E is the main lipophilic antioxidant in the skin. Kukui nut oil is high in essential fatty acids, has a similar composition to the oils of the skin. It is thus easily incorporated into the stratum corneum, due to the essential fatty acids and oleic acid(30%). Strengthening the intracellular bonds that support the structure of the skin, the oil lays down a mixture of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, leaving a semi- permeable layer that nourishes, protects and prevents premature aging. A member of the cabbage or Brassica family, broccoli seed oil moisturizes with stable, non-greasy yet effective action. The very long long -chain fatty acids help protect against damage from excess sun. Sulforaphane, a compound associated with the cabbage family, provides UV protection by stimulation of protective enzymes.
Broccoli seeds are especially high in sulforaphane and able to stimulate the production of the enzyme glutathione, a coenzyme antioxidant that all cells make.
